Offset Vibration

The Offset Vibration Motor [Product Link] is ideal for robots like Bristle-Bots and small BEAM robots.

Technical Specs

Offset Vibration Motor
Offset Vibration Motor
  • Operating Voltage: 1.5-6V
  • Length: 12mm
  • Width: 5mm approx

The offset attached to the motor causes it to vibrate, which in turn causes the robot to move. This motor runs on voltages anywhere between 1.5V to 6V, but ideally should be run in the 1.5-3V range. Using voltages around 6V increases the chances of the motor burning out soon, and if used as a driving mechanism for a small robot at this voltages, will probably require you to run after it to catch it, because it will be very fast!

Possible Application Areas

Some of the applications of this robot are:
1. Bristle-Bots – by attaching this motor along with a 1.5V button cell, using double-sided tape, at the back side of the bristle end of a toothbrush, you can create a bristle bot that moves pretty fast.
2. BEAM Bots – by attaching one or more of these motors, with a small solar cell or solar panel, and a few other components, you can create different types of BEAM Bots [Link].
3. Gami-Bot [Link]
4. Motorized Quidditch Golden Snitch [Link]
